"I don't have a clue what it will require to get this new business site off the ground," thought Kanya Ketchum.
Kanya had a new idea; well, really an old one, but a new spin might just put the bizz in this bizz'ness, she just needed a few brownie points.
"I think that religious people are the most vulnerable prospects, and also any who are proudly prim and proper in their behaviors."
"It will be fun to start things and then to watch it all explode!"
Kanya knew that it should not be a more difficult effort than the Socialites she had been exploiting for some time now. Kanya just loved to see people writhe and wriggle when the gossip got deep; she took special enjoyment when the countenance of some prim and proper gal or guy was caught casting looks of dismay while trying to explain away some tid-bit of information; true or not did not affect Kanya's delight, and her great sense of accomplishment was to appear to be totally an on-looker.
She would need to position herself securely into a Church somewhere. Yes, she must join, and also become a Sunday School member, as well as attend the Ladies Circle meetings. She would take note of each person and keep a diary of the things they said and the way they thought, and the people they knew, if she could gain that info. "This is really a "confidence game" she thought. "Delicious."
Kanya Ketchum did just as she had planned to do and found her intended endeavor so much easier than ever she could have imagined.
She discovered the most willing of assisters in the circles of her choice. One of the most effective assistants was busy Martha Prim. Martha was delightful because she supposed herself to be the righter of all wrongs for everyone's everything.
Of course, Martha had her own problems but she used the accounting trick of attrition to balance her account; the things that had happened to her in her life simply were not her fault. If others had done what they should have then she would not have done the wrong thing or rather, the thing that looked to be wrong.
Yes, Martha Prim was invaluable for the cause because she loved to work out other people's problems, offer to them all the answers they could ever hope to find, and she felt they should thank her for the effort she had extended.
Kanya noted that a few persons did not feel grateful and that was a great offence to Martha. What a gold mine of opportunity Martha would be!
The nice thing about such persons as Martha and some others as well, was their thin skinned ability to be disagreed with on any level. Why, Martha considered that a really personal offence! She stated that she felt "attacked!" by one of the lady's when that lady did not agree with a statement she had made.
Later, Martha had confided that she had been vindicated by the Lord; yes, because the other lady had lost her job; Martha was certain that it was because her "Disinter" did not know "how to speak to people properly."
Kanya found another helpful responder to the cause in Polly Policina. Polly was valuable because Polly imagined herself to be the judge and jury of all things correct. If anything came up in a class that did not match the church's by-laws, or Polly's political views, Polly was all over it in her rigidly controlled stance. Polly would argue against anything anyone stated that was too narrow for her righteous position.
Just a few words here and there made to Polly, voiced by Kanyas innocent interest, and the lid would fly away! Dare not to violate the Proper Paths of Policy!
Of course there were so many in those Groups that were "only sharing a concern of the sin another was doing undercover;" and their interest was really for the sinners soul, and what the Lord must be thinking of the wayward one.
"How good," thought Kanya "that they don't want the Lord to be offended by the wayward brother or sister."
"It makes my work so much easier; I only hope these "really good" people never read, Proverbs 10:18; "Anyone who spreads gossip is a fool."
But then, my mission is actually protected because they do not recognize their covert manipulations and accusations to be gossip.
Headquarters will be proud of my work.
