Anguished, thinking of the pain his wife would bear, The time draws near. Will it be a boy or girl child?
Having spent the cold months in a cave shelter, finding food in an expanding search had become increasingly difficult.
Welcoming the last mountain descent, muscles aching, Soon, we will leave the cave, when the newborn is strong enough. Then I will make a shelter for us in a place where the soil is better and will grow our food.
A foot feels solid ground and he turns, brushing a tuft of grass.
“Sssssss,” a snake slithers away. Cringing, memories flash before him.
The creature is everywhere I go. I lift a rock to make a clearing, it is there. I go to a stream to draw water, it is there. I am sickened at the sight of it, and my own words come back to me: ’The woman you gave me...’ “Why did I ever think saying that would excuse me?”

The topic tie-in, however, keeps eluding me, though I feel like I should be getting it. Just a little too subtle for me, I guess. :-)
