As Christians we are responsible for exhorting one another. We all need a little encouragement from time to time in this walk. Some need a gentle nudge and some need a kick square in the pants. Some can encourage themselves in the lord as David did and some need to be kick started. All of us know some one, a new Christian most times who wants to live for God but also wants to stay in his or her sinful comfort zone. They constantly come to you complaining about how life is hard and they don’t understand why they are not enjoying this new life as much as you said they would. You hold their hands and try to explain to them that that to be blessed they have to put themselves in a position to be blessed. You encourage them to turn from their sins and truly embrace Gods word and his precepts. They in turn assure you that they will stop fornicating and drinking and smoking and what ever else they are doing that they are not supposed to be doing. Two weeks later they are right back down in the dumps where they were before. Again you hold there hands and pray with them and God reveals to you what the real problem is, they still haven’t repented of their sins. Don’t get me wrong we all sin and fall short but there is a difference in being overtaken by a fault and willfully practicing sin. This is when you stop holding there hand and look them straight in their eyes and say “my brother or my sister your problem is you don’t trust God, you trust him in some things but your still selling those drugs because you don’t trust God to meet your financial needs.” Sometimes you have to just be straight up. I doubt if Peter felt joyous when Jesus said to him “get behind me satan, for you have not in mind the things of God.”Some times we have to throw the cold water of reality into each others face in order for us to see the truth of the situation. I should know because 10 years ago I was the one on the receiving end of such tough love and it saved my life. I have been trusting in God for everything ever since. So next time you run into the same situation give it to them straight they'll thank you for it.
