What Christmas Means to me

What does Christmas mean to me, What stands out most in my memory.
It’s not the presents I would wake to find.
Not the fragrance or the beauty of a sacrificial pine.
It’s definitely not the shopping, For a gift you hope they’ll like,
Not dodging all the traffic, Or the crowds of people that you fight.

It’s not deciding where to go, With children, food and gifts in tow.
Not worrying if the dessert you made is one that all will like
Or how much money that you’ve spent
I think we’ve all lost sight.

What does it mean, The Christmas Joy, As I write and reminisce
The loved ones past, my children’s joy
The simple things I miss.

The excitement that I used to have, But lost as I grew old
The feelings that I would get, When read the greatest story ever told.
The joy that comes with giving, To bring joy to someone’s life
To lay in dark and quiet, Snuggled close beside my wife.

Watching grandkids stare at presents, Wrapped beneath the Christmas tree
Trying to figure out what’s in them
IS THAT BIG ONE THERE FOR ME?

To listen to the old folks, Tell of Christmas’s of past
Then see them drift to silence
Because old memories make them sad.
A present made by grandpa, The laugh that grandma had
Or wishing they could just once more
Be with their mom and dad

Christmas is a special time, A time for all to share.
Spending time with friends and family, Letting someone know you care
Remembering Christ Jesus, Our Savior born this day
A gift from God in heaven, A light to guide our way
A blessed Son who gave His life, So all in Christ could live
He gave His life, He paid the price
You’ll receive no greater gift.

Remember Jesus loves you, Remember family
And friends what I just told you, Is what Christmas means to me.

I think what I see here the most is the reminder that Christmas is about sharing and love. When we get older, the kids are gone, we often find that we are alone and while the phone calls come, it's not the same. I think it is at this moment, like the poem says, we need to find a new way to love and share.

Lovely poem. The great feeling of Christmas shared with loved ones comes across and touches the hearts of those who feel exactly the same.
