Do you remember when you first met and fell in love with your spouse? Do you remember that uniquely special time of engagement affection? When it didn’t matter if it was 3am, you were still talking and couldn’t bear to part, even for necessary sleep? Do you remember the magical kiss and safe embrace? Priorities and time try to erase the memory, as if it didn’t have a right to exist in a practical, money-dependent society. And yet, if love is not the reason you are together, what is? Don’t wait for an anniversary to rekindle the romance. Your loving relationship with your spouse is probably the very strength you need to get on with ordinary, daily living, which is often filled with problems and strife. If you don’t spark the love on a regular basis, your anniversary will be spent trying to find the right restaurant, trying not to fall asleep in your plate, and trying to think of something wonderful and witty to say. The next day you will forget about it and get on with working and living…

Do you remember when you first realized that God loved you so much that He had allowed His own Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ, to suffer in your place, taking all your sin upon Himself? Do you remember that uniquely special time of engagement affection? When you were just getting to know Him and His very special love for you? When it didn’t matter if it was 3am, you were still praying and reading your bible? You didn’t want to leave church or fellowship meetings, especially because the worship expressed His love for you and your love for Him? Remember feeling the safety of His shelter and relying on Him to get you through EVERYTHING?

Don’t wait for an “anniversary” – a special alter call of recommitment. Go back there now. If you return to your first love, everything else will fall into place. All the daily problems of life will be insignificant compared to His love and care. He loves you with an everlasting love! He wants to encourage, comfort and console you in all your trials and afflictions, whatever they may be. And because you are centered in a very special relationship with God Himself, your anniversary with your spouse will be special and blessed, as will all the days of your life together!

The parallels you made between a relationship with a spouse and a relationship with Jesus are effective. You have made some good points. Thanks for sharing your work.
