When considering who or what can teach us the best, consider that…..



A blind man can teach someone to see our Lord in the least of His children.

A deaf man can teach someone to hear the voice of God.

A poor man can teach someone to be rich in the things of God.

A rich man can teach someone the emptiness of wealth without God.

An addict can teach someone the consequences of substance abuse.

Divorce can teach someone what it takes to maintain a marriage.

Hatred can teach someone the importance of being loved.

The worst of sinners can teach someone how to become the greatest saint.

Ignorance can teach someone the need for knowledge.

Fear can teach someone the need for faith.

Sickness can teach someone to appreciate health.

Homelessness can teach someone to appreciate our house.

Death can teach us the significance of our mate.

Hunger can teach someone the importance of food.

The need to be forgiven can teach someone to forgive.

Failure can teach someone to succeed.

Debt can teach us the need for thriftiness.

Confinement can teach someone to appreciate freedom.

Sinners can teach someone how to be saved.

I don’t know who said it first, but the above examples confirm the old saying that every man is my teacher in that I can learn from him. Note that in each example, the pivotal word is “can”. Learning is not automatic; it takes, time, devotion, endurance, persistence, and most of all, an attitude of humility.

This is so true! Usually we think that we learn by watching, by copying, by studying, but some of our best lessons are watching others and deciding not to follow their paths. You have made a very simply stated, but thought provoking example of how we learn (or what teaches us best.) Thanks for the refreshing way of looking at it, put so simply.
