on a drippy, hot day
hair pulled back
the hike of course
will be sweltering
she stretches a second
and plows down the hill
the return
seems steeper the mountain
she’ll be melting
logic gets sparse
knowing she is thin
losing weight is not her reason
health can be kept
in the gym
not looking for muscle
she gets plenty chance
has three kids
and keeps track
of each of them
what she craves
is the One
that keeps her in tune
the time alone
with Him in her thoughts
watching the sky
hearing birds
as they fly
she can hear His
voice as He talks
she walks with Him
in conversation
listening in her mind
as He speaks
keeping careful her pride
knowing without His
in abide
her heart and soul
would be weak
and coming to Him
she walks up the hills
that crush
as she faces her faults
but coming down
she grins
He holds her sweet hand
both ways
each day
while she walks...
