There are big and little things throughout the day that, when I keep my eyes open to seeing them, they bring a smile to my face and a fullness to my soul. And when I keep looking for the Lord in the everyday, it keeps my heart aligned with Him—I stay connected to Him.
For instance, there are the obvious, colossal moments like when He kept me in the slow lane of traffic, only for me to finally get my chance to turn only to see a blazing blue Bronco out of the corner of my left eye blowing through his red light in front of me! I’m so grateful the Lord held me back in the slow lane to avoid a possible fatal collision! That truck would’ve t-boned me immediately! Talk about a “Thank You, Jesus!” moment. He knew my little lead foot needed a slow-down. I see that as simply His hand of merciful divine intervention.
Or, I’ve seen His loving mercy when, over time, He gently extracts the condition of my heart and shows me that what I thought was “serving Him” was really looking for the applause of man. Oh, how I’m so grateful for His grace and mercy in those moments!! He’s such a gentleman, letting me learn my lesson in His timing and letting me see His goodness in hindsight. He let me go through that situation so I could learn the difference between trying to do things with perfection versus doing my best with excellence and unto the Lord (“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT).
Then there are the small, daily things He does: He’ll send a hummingbird to flutter over me when I’m feeling melancholy (because He knows I love them!); He will allow me to look up to the sky and see an image of a puffy snow angel or other design; Or, the friend I’ve been thinking of and “chexted” in with (checked in via text) responded that I made her day.
I say those are a supernatural blessings to me. Drops of heaven. Acts of mercy.
What a good God we serve. Lovingly guiding, mercifully correcting, graciously giving. Always present. Always at work. Always mine.
