“Where is my honor, O Israel,
That’s due unto my name?
If, I am, indeed, your Father
Should I not my honor claim?
A son honors his father
As does a servant, his master,
If I’m, then, your Father,
Does not my honor matter?
In the stead of holy reverence
My hallowed name you despise,
Challenge me when I call you out
Claiming ignorant surprise.
Take a look at the holy altar
And the animals in sacrifice,
In lieu of unblemished offerings
Will the sick and the lame suffice?
Dare you bring to your own governor
A blind animal from your flock,
While you offer me what’s improper
And withhold the best of the stock?
The name due the highest honor
Among the nations exalted so high
My people so flippantly dishonor
And try in vain, my favor to buy.
To what gain is your empty worship
With the defiled offerings you make?
I would rather you fully abstain
From insincere rituals, a break.
You may shut down the temple doors
Not kindle the fire for my sake
No pleasure have I in your service
When my honor is sadly at stake”
This was just a small part of the message Malachi had for the people. Sighing deeply, he put one foot in front of the other, determined to do whatever the Lord had tasked him with.
