Living With Dignity

Individuals with dignity have a high sense of morale. As Christians we must lead dignified lives. God’s word should be at the forefront of every decision and choice we make. A dignified life is one of holiness, righteousness, and fruitfulness in the Lord Jesus Christ. Individuals with dignity have a lot of self-respect. They value themselves. They value their minds and bodies. They refuse to let sin reign in their mortal bodies.

How To Lead a Dignified Life in Christ?

“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace,” (Romans 6: 12-14).

“I beseech you therefore, brethren by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God,” (Romans 12:1-2). “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them,” (Ephesians 5:11). “But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know that no unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God,” (Ephesians 5:3-5). “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? For ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty,” (2 Corinthians 6: 16-18).

“Know ye not that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them members of an harlot? God forbid,” (I Corinthians 6:15). “Flee fornication. Every sin that man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his body. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s,” (I Corinthians 6: 18-20).

Jospeh: An Example of Godly Dignity.

Joseph had a high sense of morale and self-respect for his body and for the word of the Lord. He had a lot of respect for his master Potiphar, who was “an officer of Pharoah,” (Genesis 39: 1). Genesis chapter 39 verses 7-20, tell of Joseph’s high sense of morale. In these scriptures we find that Potiphar’s wife, “cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she told Joseph to lie with her.” She wanted Joseph to betray his master Potipher and commit adultery with her. She kept pursing Joseph and Joseph kept refusing her requests. “And she caught him by his garment, saying lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled and got him out,” (Genesis 39: 12). She lied to her husband and said that Joseph attempted to rape her and when she “cried out he fled and left his garment in her hand,” (Genesis 39: 14-15). Potiphar believed her and put Joseph in prison (Genesis 39: 19-20).

Jospeh would rather keep his dignity and become imprisoned, rather than sin against his own body and God. He’d rather keep his dignity than betray his master, Potiphar. God blessed Joseph in prison for keeping his dignity. “But the Lord was with Joseph and shewed him mercy and gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison. And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that were in the prison; and whatsoever they did there he was the doer of it,” (Genesis 39: 21-22).

You have a great opening first paragraph. It demonstrates what you believe from reading the Bible. It pulled me in and made me think. Unfortunately the rest is almost all Bible quotes.(A good way to tell if you have an inequal balance, would be to highlight everything that is a direct quote. I bet even you might be surprised at how much is highlighted). I'd shoot for less than 20% at most. In a month or two, I'm going to give some tips on FW on FB about adding Scripture to entries. I hope you'll look for it and check it out. Instead of copying verses word for word, pick just one or two verses and expand on what they mean to you. Because of the links FW has, you'll be able to reference the verses and the readers can click and read them for themselves. Sadly, in today's world, many people will skip over pieces that have too many verses in them. I can tell you have a desire to share your knowledge and passion. I want to read more of that and learn from your experiences and interpretations. I think you have great knowledge to share and look forward to seeing you expand your writing so others can feel that passion too.
