Who’s a Neighbor?

And who is my neighbor? he asked Jesus.
A parable was told him, by Jesus.
To tell you the truth, it’s a poem for me.
And this is how Lord Jesus made me free.

There was a man that went to Jericho.
Went from Jerusalem, just so you know.
Fell in with thieves, who did what thieves will do.
Wounded, left for dead, they took his clothes too.

A priest came, but would he help, he passed by.
A Levite, would he help, he did not try.
They passed on the other side of the road.
Could people miss him, where he was ill bode.

Then came a Samaritan, by that way.
Compassion, let the man bode well that day.
He bound up the man’s wounds with oil and wine.
Put the man upon his beast, he should be fine.

The Samaritan took him to an inn.
Paid the host two pence, till he come again.
He said, if thou spendest more, I’ll repay.
Care for him and I’ll see you on that day.

Of these, who’s a neighbor, if it pleases.
The one that showed mercy, he told Jesus.
Jesus said, go and do likewise, when you can.
Mercy could be grace for another man.

Man, woman and child are all your neighbor.
Fear God, give all men and the King honor.
