With rushing robes,
He kept all of the
Rules. Kept himself clean,
Stiff, righteous. Hurry to the Temple
Of Yahweh,
Who was with him, right?
That priest is thinking….
Look, red ooze on the ground—eww!
What is that—a person? Oh no,
No, I must run, set up the Temple.
No thank you.
I will get some of their yuck on me.
I’m crossing the road.
Someone else can help him. He
will make me very unclean as I run off to
Church to serve God because I love Him.
Oh wait.
Levite immaculate,
Is on his way to the Temple,
God’s Temple.
Followed His laws neatly,
No misses
As far as he knows.
Strict, unbending, cold within.
He sees a man lashed
Almost to pieces.
He ponders this mess….
I can’t clean up all the ooze; he is suffering.
I have to run to church to assist
The priest. I have to offer grain sacrifices--
Can’t help someone here.
I will get blood on me,
Become unclean.
I have to serve God at Temple,
With a heart full of love for Him.
Oh wait.
Samaritan sees and thinks:
I can’t be around Jews.
Their prejudice doesn’t harden my heart.
I have town
Business to attend. Why, look there!
A bloody man and what?
Moaning in his wounds.
I will take him, no matter what
I will cleanse him, no matter what
I will drop him off at a place to rest,
Paying for him.
I will come back to get him,
Myself.
