Topic: Board - Bored (01/12/23)
David paced back and forth on the patio of his palace. He felt bored as he could not get his mind off the war that was being fought by his army on the battlefield led by Joab. He felt slightly guilty wondering if the consistent victories in the battles made him take them lightly. As he looked outside, he saw Bathsheba who was the wife of Uriah, one of his soldiers, taking bath in the river. Instantly lust onboarded in David's mind. David had Bathsheba brought to his palace and in no time, he committed adultery with her. This turned out to be one of the quickest sins and the consequences also followed immediately. Bathsheba conceived with David’s child.

Now David, who was called a ‘man after God’s own heart’ instead of repenting to God, tried to hide his sin - repeated the same pattern as the garden of Eden. The devil sowed crooked plans in David’s mind. David invited Uriah to his palace from the battlefield and made him eat and drink. He tried to trick him to go to his wife to hide his involvement in violating Bathsheba. But things did not go as planned. Uriah wouldn’t go to his home due to his sincerity towards his job.

The devil sowed more seeds of crookedness in David’s mind. David sent a message in the hands of Uriah to Joab, his commander, to put Uriah at the battlefront hoping that Uriah would get killed by the enemies. Poor Uriah carried his own death sentence in his own innocent hands. This time, things went as per David’s crooked plan. Poor Uriah got killed in the war, just the way David wanted.

David wasted no time in bringing Bathsheba onboard to his palace, now as his own wife. The conception of the baby got beautifully hidden behind this most crooked plot of the man after God’s own heart.

Proverbs 5:22 NKJV His own iniquities entrap the wicked man, and he is caught in the cords of his sin.

The God who is righteous came through as the defender of poor Uriah who was betrayed by his own wife and also the king. The baby who was born to David and Bathsheba as a result of adultery fell very sick. Nathan the prophet rebuked David and foretold him that the baby would surely die. And it happened just as it was told.

Nothing can be hidden from God’s sight. God does not simply see outwardly as man sees. God sees whatever is hidden inside the secret closets of our hearts and the nooks and corners of our mind’s attic. So may we pray for a clean heart with no hidden closets and dusty nooks and corners.

You have a great start - I think you could have kept the storytelling going for longer before transitioning to the teaching part. Thanks for sharing. Blessings

This is a clear retelling of the familiar Bible story. It feels like a condensed version. When retelling a story, you want to tel it from a POV that is fresh and gives the reader something to think about. You start off nicely with his pacing back and forth, but after the first paragraph it feels a bit rushed. You do have a clear message. You did manage to use both topic words as well. Good job.
