Jesus and His disciples went to the country of Gadarenes. When He got out of the boat, a man with an unclean spirit came out of the tombs where he lived and met Jesus. No one could bind this man, even with chains because he pulled the chains apart and broke the shackles to pieces. He could not be bound physically by chains and shackles but was bound spiritually by the chains and shackles of the demons. He was constantly crying and cutting himself with stones. When this man saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshipped Him. He acknowledged Jesus as the Son of the Most High God and requested Him not to torment him. Jesus simply commanded, saying, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit!”. Then Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”. And he answered, “My name is Legion. For we are many”. And the demons pleaded to Jesus to send them into the large herd of swine that was feeding near the mountain. Jesus gave them permission and the unclean spirits entered the herd of swine which was about two thousand and the herd ran violently down the steep place into the sea and drowned.

After this, Jesus was met by a ruler of the synagogue named Jairus. He fell at the feet of Jesus and begged Him to heal his little daughter who was at the point of death. So Jesus went with him while a big crowd of people followed them to see the miracle. In the meantime, a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all that she had and got no better but only worse. She came behind Jesus, but unlike others, she could not tell her sickness to Him openly out of embarrassment. So she quietly touched the hem of Jesus’ garment with tremendous faith because that was her only option. Immediately, the fountain of her blood was dried up. Jesus immediately felt that power had gone out of Him to heal someone, turned around, and asked the crowd, “Who touched My clothes?”. The woman, fearing and trembling, told Him the whole truth. And Jesus said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction”. By then, servants from Jairus’ household came to inform him that his daughter was dead. Jesus said to Jairus, “Do not be afraid; Only believe”.He took the child by the hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, arise: Immediately the girl arose and walked.
Our Lord Jesus has the authority over everything that has the power to intimidate us. There is nothing over which He does not have authority. Because of Him, we can be at rest knowing that He is our defender and our Lord of Hosts.
