They started
Ended up as a hedge.
Purposed
To stand guard
Over their companions.
Protector
Warding away
Those who would eat.
Brilliant
Colored flowers
With beautiful greenery
Small
Tender shoots
Growing larger daily
Warmer
Weather with water
Caused tremendous growth.
Children
Fascinated
Would stop to pick.
Animals
Stopped to smell
And mark their territory.
Adults
Took bunches
For inside vases
Myself
Picked posies
Bold brilliance dazzling
Guarding
My garden
By a heavily trodden path.
Summer
Hot and rainy
Caused mega growth.
Taller
Entwining
Branches spread and grew
Massive
Brilliant blooms
Without compare
Dead heading
Would cause more
Massive brilliant blooms
Summer
Got cooler
Less intense
Still
Standing tall
Branches with blooms
Mornings
Chillier than before
Less water as less heat
Red golds
Golden reds
Massive tall greenery
Daily
Brought smiles
Passerby’s entertained.
One
Day came a chill
Best watch for a freeze
Freeze watch
Freeze warnings
Never came to be.
Suddenly
Frost came to be
Washed off the frost
No harm
To vegetation
Best be watching closer
Covering
The garden
Protecting all plants
Marigold
Red, gold and green
Left to stand alone alas.
No covering
Frost heavier
Took their daily toll
Frozen
Plants turned brown
Green peeking through
Pruned
Yesterday
The dead growth
Yeah
Strong
Some survived.
Soon
Starting
Another hedge?
