Moses, our able leader is in charge, with our armed forces all ready to defend us. I felt secured because God has heard and answered our prayers. Pharaoh at last has conceded to let us go but will he be true to his words? Only time will tell. We are on a journey to freedom never to return to work as slaves again.
“Come on Mary, walk along with me”
“Mama, where is daddy?” asked Mary.
“He is caring for the animals”. She looked intently at me and shook her head.
Knowing seven year old Mary, it was not strange that other questions would be fourth-coming.
“Where are we going mama?”
“We are going to a new country where Jehovah God has given us our own land, and we will no longer will be slaves”, I responded.
Other persons hearing the conversation smiled at her as they passed.
Moses and the leaders took the remains of Joseph’s body on the way out of Egypt. The number of persons leaving this wicked place could be about two million so we just followed along.
We stopped at Etham, an area near the desert where we refreshed ourselves while adults as well as children slept.
Some of us could not sleep. Some of us were acting like we were in a stupor but we were being delivered and it was happening.
I noticed an unusual fire that came up during the night that warmed us and gave us light, this assured me of God’s presence and provisions.
We moved as directed to camp at Pi Hahiroth between Migdol and the sea. All seemed great until signs of pharaoh and his army seemed to be in the distant coming towards us. There was pandemonium.
Children ran in all directions, “help, Lord” was heard. The entire camp was in disarray.
“What have you done to us?” “Have you brought us here to die because there were no graves in Egypt?” these were some of the accusations tossed on to Moses.
Moses was calm and instructed. “Do not be afraid, stand your ground, and see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still”.
There was a quietness that seemed holy and all of us just watched in anticipation for God’s mighty hand of miracle!
The pillar of cloud moved over us and settled to the back of the people, this separated us from the enemy.
Moses raised his hand over the sea. The thunderous roaring of the water was heavy in our ears. No one spoke; all eyes were glued to what was next. A mighty wind from the east came and eventually, we saw that the water was divided leaving a dry path in the middle of the sea. It seemed as if there were a wall of protection of water on the right and on the left of us. We walked in humility over to the other side. Jehovah saved us again.
When we were all over, Moses raised his hand over the sea again and the water reclaimed its place so the wicked Pharaoh and his host who were still pursuing us were all destroyed in the raging waters.
We watched in amazement at the Lord’s doing.
We are free! Yes we are free at last. The people shouted in loud unison “Freedom has come!” and we danced to freedom.
