Tasting the Goodness of the Lord

We all know that God is a good and merciful God. God is good to his creation at all times. There are many stories in the bible that illustrate the goodness of our God. God is always there for us when we need him. God shows his people he loves them every day. For the bible says “Blessed be the Lord who daily loadeth us with benefits” (Palms 68:19.) On a daily basis we experience some measure of God’s goodness. Our lives, having the activity of our limbs, our health, our family’s well being, our jobs and careers are all examples of God’s daily show of love and devotion to mankind. The bible states in Psalms 113 verses seven through nine: “He rasieth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill: That he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people.” “He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord.” (Psalm 113:7-9). Psalms 34:verse 8 tells us “O taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.” Psalms 103 verses 2-8 also describes the many ways the Lord is good to us. “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” “Who forgiveth all thine iniquities: who healeth all thy diseases; who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with loving kindness and tender mercies: Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things, so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed. He made known his way unto Moses, his acts unto the children of Israel. The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy” (Psalms 103: 2-8).

Another example of how God proclaimed his goodness to his people, the people of Judah and Israel occurs in Jeremiah chapter 33. In Jeremiah chapter 33, God promises to restore Judah and Israel from former captivity with the promise of a savior who will heal the land. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah. In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of Righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith it shall be called, The Lord our righteousness” (Jeremiah 33:14-16). “And it shall be to me a name of Joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it” (Jeremiah 33:9).

God has demonstrated his goodness toward us by sending his only begotten son, Jesus Christ, “that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). The sacrifice of God’s only begotten son for our sins was the ultimate act of goodness from the Lord God to the people of the world. We taste God’s goodness every day. From the first breath we take in the morning to the last step we walk during the day, we experience God’s goodness. We are living testimonies to God’s goodness. God provides food, clean water, clothing, and shelter for us daily. He gives us our daily bread (our daily measure of blessings) every single day. We never go without tasting the goodness of the Lord.

Your entry would make a great devotional. I certainly agree that God does provide us with so many good things. In your first paragraph, I think a couple of your sentences could have started out with He instead of God. It seemed redundant to me, but overall, I found your entry meeting the challenge word.

The scriptures you have chosen aptly illustrate God's goodness and His never-ending love for us. You could perhaps consider breaking the long paragraphs into shorter sections to improve the "readability" of your article. Your article carries a strong message!

You make some great points. This would be nice for a Bible study (note Bible should be capped because it's the name of a book). I'd think it could be more powerful if broken down to one Scripture and then expound on what it means and give examples of how that verse impacted your life. Be careful about using universal we or you. It's possible that someone reading this might not yet know God is good. I can feel your calling to spread the news of God. Keep writing, you're doing great.
