Topic: CONTROL (02/18/21)
I once knew a young girl by the name of Faith. She was the type of person who did not usually ask for help with anything. She always figured she could work things out on her own. That is, until the day she knew she needed outside help.

The day started out the same way most days began, with Faith at the switchboard and most of her co-workers answering the phones. Faith had just transferred one of her calls to her friend Carmen, the person taking calls for New York City and the surrounding boroughs. She was about to take her morning break when she heard a gasp and an extremely loud thump on the floor.

Faith looked around in time to see Carmen trying to give Rose mouth-to mouth resuscitation. Rose was the worker who had passed out. It was not working and Faith was looking for someone to lead everyone in the office in prayer. One co-worker, Beverly, called for an ambulance to take Rose to the hospital.

Faith did not usually pray out loud, especially in the presence of many people. However, this situation was unique since her friend’s life was hanging in the balance. Faith forgot all about everything going on around her and began praying loudly.

“Lord, we bring our friend Rose to you in prayer. We ask You to please intervene in her life and help her to breathe again and for her heart to start beating, in accordance with Your will. We know that You are sovereign and we ask for Your will to be done. We thank You in advance for all things that You do in us and through us. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.”

After Faith finished praying, she stood up and looked down at Rose. “I heard you praying for me, Faith. I don’t think I need to go to the hospital now, but I will leave it up to the paramedics to decide after they examine me and check my vitals. Thanks.”

The paramedics came in and did a thorough examination of Rose and decided she could stay at her phone and work. There did not seem to be anything wrong with her. Perhaps it was just too hot in the workplace.

At any rate, God came through for Rose and for Faith that day. He always does what is right and He takes charge in all of our lives.

Just like Faith, many can feel uncomfortable praying out loud. Thankfully, she listened to the Holy Spirit prompting her to pray for her friend. God gave her the strength to pray at just the right moment.
