Now that sounded like an awesome idea. At least it was something to do. Elle could be a lot of fun, when she wanted to be. Regardless, I loved Elle and enjoyed spending time with her.
We made the arrangements. Since neither of us had a car, it was decided that my dad would take us to the skating rink and her dad would pick us up. An arrangement we relied upon many times as the two of us did things together. I longed for the day when I would be able to drive myself, but that was not in the near future for either of us.
At seven o’clock we were dropped off at the skating rink. Inside, teenagers gathered, skating to the sounds of Bobby Darin singing “Splish-Splash”.
Elle and I quickly got our skates on, giggling as we always did, ready for a fun evening; so I hoped.
During the course of our evening a young man caught my attention. A handsome young man.
Tall.
Blond.
Cute.
Someone I wished I could get to know better. That wasn’t going to happen. I was too shy to go up to a stranger and ask him if he wanted to skate. So I simply admired and dreamed from a distance.
It was nearing the time for the rink to close. I said to my cousin, “Elle, you better notify your dad that we are ready to go home.”
“None sense,” was her reply. “There is a guy here I dated once. I am going to ask him if he would take us home.”
“Really?” “Are you sure that’s a good idea?” “Do you know him well?”
“Stop your worrying. I’m sure this will work. Besides, I would like him to ask me out again and this might give him the courage to do so” was her reply.
“Cool! Who is he? Can you point him out to me?”
I declare I nearly stopped breathing when she pointed to Blond Guy. The very same boy I had my eye on. The boy I was dreaming about.
“Oh Elle, he’s a Dreamboat. You are one lucky girl.”
She smiled, “I know.”
Elle never introduced us, but she called him Paul. He seemed like a nice guy, and a true gentleman. We had a 15 minute drive back into town. He and Elle chatted away like old friends while I felt like a wallflower except there was no wall to lean on.
When we arrived in town, we stopped at the local Dairy Queen for ice cream, his treat.
I really liked this guy. Too bad he dated my cousin.
It was time to take us girls home. I was surprised when he didn’t ask for directions to my house. Instead, he took Elle home first.
Seriously!
She was not a happy-camper when he dropped her off at her house, and he did not ask her on another date, much to her dismay.
I found myself alone, in his car, with a stranger. Needless to say I was a little fearful. I did not know what his intentions were, if any. I quickly gave him directions to my home, which he followed carefully. Once at my house, I opened the door and jumped out only to find that he was right behind me. Before I reached the front porch, he grabbed my hand and asked if I would like to go out with him next Saturday night.
With heart pounding, I said yes.
Now to tell my cousin.
She was so mad she wouldn’t talk to me. As though any of this was my fault.
That day, our friendship ended.
She never forgave me for stealing her guy.
I didn’t think one date qualified ownership on a guy. Apparently in her mind it did.
Paul and I began dating. Seven months later we were engaged. Nine months after that we were married. I invited Elle to our wedding, but she refused to come.
For years I tried to mend our friendship, but to no avail. Sixty years have passed with no word from my cousin. Un-forgiveness is a hard pill to swallow. Colossians 3:13 says, “Be gentle and ready to forgive; never hold grudges. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.” (The Living Bible).

She shook her head and wiggled her eyebrows. "No way. I'm gonna ask that hunk to take us home."
This is just a quick example to show how body language and dialog can pull the reader into the story.
I like your message although it breaks my heart that girls would let a boy come between them. Keep writing. I'd also like to challenge you to read and comment on every entry in your level and at least 3 in the other two. Goid job.
Doesn't really tally with the topic though
Well-done!
