“Himself’ was due home from his day
All was ready for his return
A hot meal, music softly playing
Logs and paper put in the fireplace burned.
BUT He Didn’t Come Home As Expected!
Oh, he must have run an errand
It won’t be very long a wait-
Better he do this enroute home
Then having to be out too late.
Maybe he stopped by a friend’s place
Traffic could be heavy tonight-
Surely he has noticed the time.
Oh, did I flip on the porch light?
IT’S So Not Like Him
I hope nothing’s wrong with the car.
He could be stranded on some roadside-
Or on some dark road all alone
Needing a push, jump, or a ride.
Maybe I should call a few friends
To see if he might be with them-
Some one might know his where-a-bouts
Maybe I should give them a try.
I Feel Something Has Happened
Pacing about, wringing my hands
My nerves are strung so tight-
My friend has a police scanner
Maybe she can provide some light.
Maybe I should call the E.R.
To see if he’s been brought there-
Wounded, bleeding, hurting, in pain
Requiring their skilled, medical care.
What If…
My heart is racing, my mind envisions
All sorts of trials about to fall-
What will I do, how’ll I bear it
Why hasn’t he even tried to call?
Suddenly, the door opens wide
“I’m home; I had to work real late-
What’s for dinner? I am starving
Please make me up a heaping plate.”
