The numbers on the old mansions were large. Suddenly she saw it: number 75. Boldly she entered and was surrounded with a degree of opulence that she never knew existed. A twinge went through those chiseled abs. Had her decision to come here been made too rashly? Her chin and shoulders lowered. She wanted to turn around and run but, instead, reminded herself that this was what she had been working for her whole life. Always adventurous, perhaps she had been too much so this time.
Still she went forward toward the studio. A class was in progress. Peering through the one-way mirror she gasped. All the students were far more advanced than she was. What to do? A rash decision had led her here, so she continued in the same vein. There were no parents and no friends to advise her. No one was there to guide her.
Back home she had been the leader, the best at her craft. She truly considered herself God’s special gift to her art. She asked Him to bless everything she did, and she believed that He would. So why did she have this horrible revelation that she did not belong here? She went back home feeling rejected and confused.
What went wrong? Wisely, she went to her pastor and asked him, “What happened? I know I need more training, but it’s more than that, isn’t it? Why does my gut ache?”
Her pastor was patient and kind, and he listened to her explain her dream, her decision and now, her disillusionment. They talked about her life for a while and then he said, “Melanie, is Jesus your Lord or do you just want Him to bless your plans?” Surprised by his in-your-face question, she admitted that the latter was the case.
She argued, “But Pastor, I have prepared for this all my life. I believe that my talents and abilities are a gift from God.”
“They may very well be, in fact, I’d say that they are, but they are to be used for His glory, not yours.”
“Huh? I thought I was doing it for Him.”
“Then give yourself to God and let Jesus be Lord, give the gift back to Him and see what happens.”
Heeding his advice, Melanie laid her plans at the foot of the cross of Jesus Christ. She stopped practicing what she thought He wanted. For the first time in her life, she repented of this sin and all the sins she had ever committed or ever would commit. She accepted Jesus’ payment for her sins and she became His new creation, His child.
A rather bold decision that seemed to end in failure led her to the greatest decision she would ever make. Without her rashness, would she ever have come to the crossroads that led to eternal life?
Finally, Jesus gave that gift back to her in a new and holy way and she enjoyed many years of using it for His glory. Later in life she taught others and those others taught others. Her gift continues to Glorify God and to bless people.
