Topic: ONEROUS (03/02/17)
Each time I see a post on social media about a fill-in-the-blank matter, the mischievous side of me wants to post a response like “purple violets matter.” My restraint in posting such a quip comes from experience as well as a gentle nudge (‘you should probably re-think that Janet’), from the Holy Spirit.

Truthfully, I know the power of words. Mine as well as others. I have seen someone’s passion pounced on, and unable to stop the attack, later treat the wound with the balm of His healing Word. I have teased and gone over the line, only to receive silence instead of a banter between friends. I have been grateful for the words of encouragement and appreciation from a boss grounded and fluent in the ways of God. I am a constant and thankful recipient of deep rooted love from a prayer warrior Mom and a champion husband. Throw in an occasional letter from a grandson, or a text filled with hearts and “I love you to the moon and back”, from a granddaughter, and my heart is full.

I marvel and meditate often on this; if God, created the world with the power of His voice, and we are created in His image, why wouldn’t all our words matter too? The ones we think, the ones we say and the ones we write. We are reminded of this glorious burden in Ephesians 4:29: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” And it is a glorious burden. Glorious because we are all gifted from our Abba Father to be grace and hope to someone. A burden in the sense that it is a holy task heavy with an eternal magnitude.

“My verse” has always been Isaiah 61:1 – 3, but of late, I have added Psalm 19:14 to my daily meditation. “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.” By speaking and writing His Word under His influence we are equipping each other to stay the course set before us.

All words matter. And so do purple violets!

Great piece. Well written. We all have bite marks on our feet. And you pointed out so well the burden of keeping them out of our mouth, "For by your words you shall be justified and by your words you shall be condemned," Matt. 12:37 NAS. I was confused a little by the first paragraph and had to reread it. Maybe just a little tightening up would help. Just my opinion. Good job. God bless.

Congratulations on placing 1st in the Intermediate category and moving up to the Advanced category, Janet.

I'm glad the Holy Spirit nudges us not to say the first thing that pops into our heads. Violets do matter to God; He's the one who created them.
