If only we would unswervingly place our trust in a loving God who knows our needs, we can turn our problems over to Him knowing that we will be sustained by Him. On several occasions Jesus said "€œBe not afraid" (Matt 14:47, Matt 17:7, Matt 28:10, Mark 5:36, Mark 6:50), and if can let go of fear and instead trust in God we can let go of negative thoughts and emotions which focus on our problems.
In the Gospels, when Jesus was performing his miracles, he often accredited the result to the faith of the person healed (Mark 10:52, Mark 5:34, and others). Similarly, in his guidance regarding prayer Jesus places emphasis on trust for prayer to be effective (matt 17:20, Mark 11:23-24, Luke 17:6). Indeed, one of the main strands of Jesus teaching is that absolute trust in God, who is totally reliable and who will provide for us, is required to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.
By placing our trust in God we can raise our thoughts from the material to the spiritual and thus overcome fear and negativity. As we place our total trust in God we let go of the idea that we have the power to solve our problems alone. This is what Paul meant when he said "Let this mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus (Phil 2:5) and "The carnal mind is enmity against God" (Romans 8:7).
From a personal perspective I have learned to trust that, when events seem to be going against me, everything will work out positively. By doing so I release myself from needless worry and can therefore devote my energies to more positive matters. By uplifting my thoughts I am helping to bring about the "better" solution.
For instance, a number of years ago my wife and I found ourselves in an extremely difficult situation. Without delving into the details let it suffice to say that, at that time, we were in a situation where, due to medical problems we were unable to go to work. The result was that neither of us had an income. Fortunately we had paid off our mortgage years earlier, but there were other bills to pay: Council Tax, fuel bills, food, and still others.
What were we to do? We sat in quiet meditation, reaching out to God, seeking answers. We did this on a daily basis, letting go of frustrations, fear and anger: we put our whole trust in God.
We listened very carefully for answers and the overriding message was to send out Love, unconditionally. This answer seemed strange at first – how can you send Love to people who are causing you problems? However, we did our best to put the advice into practice. It was hard to do to begin with, but the more we did it the easier it became. We realised that we had to keep up this letting go of fear and sending Love to show that we were willing to trust God.
One by one, little by little, barriers started to come down, and slowly the pathway forward filled with light. Situations were resolved, bills were paid, ailments were healed and relationships were restored. A solution that benefitted everyone involved was achieved!
We still do our best to follow the instruction to send out Love. We know that it produces good results. Indeed, there are incidences every day when we realise that we have truly been taken care of and looked after. Faith certainly makes one whole.
By always being grateful for what we have enables us to keep trusting in God. This has sustained us through several house moves and further health issues.
As we strive to trust in God and live as we have been instructed in the Ten Commandments and Jesus€™ teachings then we enjoy liberty from stress and fear. By placing trust in God our lives are enhanced, and even when things seem bad, as Julian of Norwich said, €œAll will be well again€.
