Topic: Trees (12/05/05)
In the forest, sunlight filters down through soft, whispering leaves. Surrounded by the silent oaks, I begin to pray, attuning myself to the holy presence of He who created these woods. I pray that my faith will someday be as firm and unshakable as the trees. I yearn for my faith to have deep, powerful roots. Just as I cannot move a single tree with my own hands, I pray that one day, no forces of doubt or hardship will ever move my faith again.

Delicate birds with brilliantly colored feathers trill graceful songs amid the spreading treetops. In this still, calm setting, God-given beauty enfolds my life.

The trees stand in quietude in the midst of this bountiful array of life. Every being in the forest, regardless of how small or seemingly insignificant, has its place. Every manifestation of God's creative impulse works in harmony. And with all of this diversity of life gathered here under the blue and peaceful sky, the forest is complete.

These trees were here before I was born, and in all probability, will remain here long after I am gone. They have seen many storms. They have experienced withering heat and brutal cold. Year after year, they stand in regal witness to the majesty of God.

I pray that I may be more like the trees, knowing when to be silent, and how to stand strong.
