“Do you understand?” my trainer demanded reiterating her question. I could feel my face redden as the instructor fast forwarded her agenda. “Really, if you’re going to do well here, you must pay attention,” she continued.
While my feeling had become visible, my brain was obviously in another place. The date of that memo was 2007! And more than a few out-of-date reports were strewn on the desk, I reflected.
The following day’s training took me to another room with detailed instruction amidst more… you guessed it – clutter! Drawers, file cabinets, closets – seemingly endless!
However, having been hired to do the daily accounting transactions for two companies that operate on a daily basis as if they were one, I had much to learn. There doesn’t seem to be any time to clean up clutter, I quickly refocused.
Within a few weeks, an impromptu conversation with the C.P.A. provided an appropriate forum to address the clutter issues.
“Shall I pull out last year’s files?” I asked.
My simple question revealed his long-time frustration with the obvious disorganization, and kicked-off a plan of action, with me as a willing participant, to reverse the situation.
It seems that my red-faced feeling has transitioned into an endless opportunity enabling me to use learned skills and experience with renewed confidence.

Easy to follow. The emotional stress could be felt because of the "mess".

It this a thought the person is thinking? - or should it have been written in past tense as the rest of the piece, as in 'There didn't seem to be any time...'
Very descriptive of clutter and the stress it brings, nice writing style.
