I saw you sitting in the third pew during the church services today. Your beautiful, radiant smile of joy was the perfect accessory to your pretty blue and green dress.
I saw your walker parked at the end of the pew, and I realized why you continued to sit while others stood and sang the hymns of praise. You weren’t able to stand and sing, but nothing stopped you from raising your voice to heaven, and I could easily see that you were shouting to the rafters.
I saw the look of joy and serenity on your face as you were singing to your Savior. You didn’t wear a bored expression or recite the words from memory, just like so many others singing around you. Your eyes were closed, in fervent prayer as words of praise sprang from your heart.
I saw your offering envelope in your hand, long before the collection plate was due. Nudging my husband, I whispered and pointed, “Look at that sweet lady . . . she has her offering envelope ready, and she’s praising her Jesus with all her heart.”
I saw your silver hair, and surmised that you’re in the twilight years of your life. Oh, the many changing of seasons you must have witnessed! I hope that most of your days have been golden ones. I’m certain that you have overcome many trials with Jesus at your side.
I saw that Jesus lives in your heart, although I don’t know your name or where you live.
I saw that nothing would prevent keep you from praising your Lord . . . age, illness or heavy burdens are not deterring you from going about your Father’s business of singing praises to His name..
I saw your testimony shining in your worship of the Savior, and I’m writing this letter to tell you that you’ve made a blessed impact on the life of a young wife and mother, who was prayerfully considering the call of Jesus to enter His service. The spirit of Christ, displayed in you, helped to erase any of my lingering doubts and hesitation. I thought you’d like to know the important lesson you unknowingly taught me . . . that a person is never too young or too old to serve Jesus. The gifts we humbly bring, He will repay in rich blessing.
From the bottom of my heart . . . thank you!
Your Sister in Christ
