Topic: Fragrance (10/24/05)
Do you remember the smell of fried chicken or homemade bread? Did your mother bake cookies, cakes and pies? What fragrance can make you relax? Which one can aggravate you? I can think of many that arouse different emotions in me. I guess the ones that affect me most are the one that make me think of the Lord. I feel His guidance when I sense Him near. Flowers, especially wild ones show me His presence. It is important to me to know that the Lord is with me at all times. Satan and his followers make themselves well known whether we like it or not. I look for God in many ways but one special way is in the beauty and fragrances of nature.

Have you ever noticed the beauty of a rose? Have you ever noticed the fragrance of a lilac or a hyacinth? Have you ever taken the time to notice the artistic value the Lord made when he put nature on our Earth? I have noticed that people are always in a hurry to get everywhere. Drive down the road and you will see drivers that weave in and out of traffic and drive fast just to get where they are going as quickly as they can. Then when you catch up at the streetlight, you find the speed demon sitting there waiting to pass on. I think people do the same thing with life. It seems to be a race to the end of our journey to pass on. People seem to go through life just as fast as they can. They do not take the time to notice anyone or anything.

I plan to get to the end of my journey with everyone else but I will take a little easy along the way. I plan to try my best to stay on the narrow road the Lord put before me, but along the way, I am going to enjoy the beauty the Lord put before me. I am going to absorb all the fragrances that show me that the Lord is with me. Many claim to want to see God or claim that we cannot see God but I disagree. Have you ever watched a butterfly emerge from its cocoon? Have you ever watched a flower unfold in the morning sunlight with the dew still shimmering on its petals? Did you gently touch it and soak up its fragrance. For that matter, have you slowed down long enough to see any of the Lord’s masterpieces? God is all around us in everything He created. All you have to do is look and breathe.

I like to take drives out into the country and see wild flowers. To me seem to have the most beautiful fragrances of all. I found a passionflower in my backyard. According to Louisiana wildlife officials, it is a wildflower. It has a soft gentle scent. It is a lavender color. I found it at a time when I was having a down day. Its beauty and soft fragrance warmed my heart and told me that God was watching over me no matter how bad things get.

When the fragrance of honey suckle fills the air, it is like the Lord showers you with the scent of one of his creations. It is soothing and unpolluted. The end time is not far off in my opinion. People need to slow down and see the Lord right in front of us before it is too late and it is all gone. I look forward to eternity because if this is a sample of what God can do than the fragrance of Heaven must be overwhelming. Take the time to notice the little things in nature. It can be instant stress relief.

I'd love to see a re-write of this without all of the questions to the reader, and the references to "you."

Your making me hungry! The Lord is the smell of a home cooked meal, freshly laundered sheets, mopped linoleum, my husband's favorite cologne, and beautiful roses from my children on Mother's day all rolled up into one! Each blessing provided me with a new aroma of praise! Thanks for helping me count my bouquet of blessings with your sweet article:)

I read once about the seven wonders of the world--and the sense of smell being one of them.
I think that it's awesome the individual memories that fragrances bring to our hearts. And maybe that is the same with God and us. Your questions brought on thoughts. Thank you for sharing! Nice work. God bless ya, littlelight
