People with mental disorders have done what they wanted to with their lives
and are continuing to do so. You can, too! It takes creativity, hard work, patience, and persistence. You may have a harder time convincing others of your ability to meet your goals after a diagnosis. But you can and you will if you are determined.
If it is to be, it is up to me. These are 10 simple, little words but they mean so much. There are steps you can follow to feel better and have a happy
life. Here are some good examples:
Take prescribed medication as directed.
Have checkups and lab tests when ordered.
Attend therapy sessions.
Be patient because it might take time to bring your mood swings under control.
After surviving an episode, start your own personal program to wellness by:
Doing something you enjoy.
Eat a healthy diet.
Get a hobby.
Set aside time for yourself.
Try an exercise program with your doctor’s advice.
Talk out your worries.
Read the Bible.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11) NKJV.
History shows brilliance often goes hand in hand with mental illness.
People with mental disorders enrich our lives. Mood disorders tend to happen
to the most intelligent and creative people. They are famous authors, artists, doctors, poets, politicians, television and movie stars, and singers.
Let’s look at them for some inspiration. Included in this study are quotes by these people to empower and motivate us. This list has been compiled in the hopes of helping anyone who reads it to live the life of their dreams.
If you are a sufferer, you are in good company. The following admitted sufferers of depression (and/or bipolar disorder) are successful.
Lionel Aldridge

Defensive end for the Green Bay Packers
Sportscaster @WTMJ-TV
Full time speaker for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill
Aldridge helped capture three straight NFL Championships and
the first two Super Bowls.
Described as a mix in loving, caring quiet dignity, patience, wisdom,
hard work, and a never-give-up attitude.
“Success is not in rising, it’s in rising when you fall,” said Aldridge.
Buzz Aldrin

Second man to walk on the moon
Author of “Return to Earth” and “Men from Earth”
Graduated West Point with Honors in 1951, third in his class

The techniques he devised were used on all NASA missions.
Invented ‘the Cycler,’ a spacecraft system which makes perpetual
orbits between Earth and Mars and received a patent for a permanent
Space station he designed.
Received the Presidential Medal of Freedom
Commander of the Test Pilot School at Edwards Air Force Base
Aldrin lectures and travels the world to discuss his ideas for exploring the
universe.
Aldrin encourages everyone to work for NASA (National Aeronautics
and Space Administration), including people with disabilities,
such as Muscular Dystrophy.
“Beautiful, Beautiful! Magnificent desolation,” said Aldrin while space
walking on the moon with Neil Armstrong on July 20, 1969 while becoming
the first two humans to set foot on another world.
Deborah Norville
(1958- )
TV Journalist
Book: Back on Track
“I’m about as straight an arrow as you’ll find out there,” said Norville.
Jimmy Stewart
(1908-1997)

“If I had my career over again? Maybe I’d say to myself, speed it up a little,” said Stewart.
And the list goes on and on, including Ray Charles, Winston Churchill, Eric Clapton, Dick Clark, Princess Di, Robert Frost, Audrey Hepburn, Abe Lincoln, Mozart, Jane Pauley, and Mike Wallace. John Wayne is another one. “Courage is being scared to death but saddling up anyway,” said John Wayne. Words to live by. There are many people who can inspire us to go on when we have snapped. It helps to remember that we are not alone. I hope these words will help the hurting “Snap out of it!”
