Topic: Easter (05/30/05)
If you and I search our hearts as to the actual definition of Easter we will discover that the central theme behind it is the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is the Lord’s triumph over the plague of sin that corrupted all of us through the disobedience of Adam & Eve. However, it is unfair to cast blame totally upon the first two people in creation for those that came afterward still had the luxury of choice. On the other hand, was not until the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ that we experienced true spiritual freedom. This is due to the fact that it is as it was then impossible for us to live up to the standards of the Ten Commandments. In actuality they as well as you and I were never meant to live up to them but instead the Ten Commandments were meant to reveal how sinful we actually are. If we examine closely the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ we will discover that Easter is truly about the spiritual freedom granted to us through his triumph over sin and death.

Why do I say spiritual freedom and how does this exactly pertain to us and to all those that have accepted Jesus Christ’s redemptive work? Firstly, the spiritual freedom that I speak of recognizes that the ability to live the life that God would like us to live is impossible and out of our hands. Secondly, spiritual freedom accepts the fact that we were never meant to live according to God’s standards. Thirdly, spiritual freedom knows and acknowledges that Jesus Christ lived the perfect life that God desired for you and I to live and if that were not enough he died for the sins of mankind. Fourthly, realizing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead and all those who acknowledge that shall also. So what exactly doe all this mean? This simple truth is defined in this manner that I no longer have to strive to live the way God intended me to but that I should surrender my will and receive that which has already been done through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. You and I are already the person God has intended us to be the moment we accept the work of Jesus Christ. Here are some points to consider:

1) Accept the work of Jesus Christ.
2) Recognize that you are already who God says you are in his word.
3) Surrender your will and simply receive do not try to attain.
4) Focus your attention on Jesus Christ and the image of God shall be manifested in your life.

It is clear to see that Easter is cause for celebration and that all of mankind should recognize this day as a triumphant occasion. The next time you think that you are unable to live according to God’s standards remember it has already been done for you. So it is a matter of your acceptance of what has already been done and your focus on who accomplished the impossible tas

I liked the way you placed salvation in and through Christ alone. The late Keith Green said God gave him a song. It begins, "My son, my son, why are you striving? You can't add one thing to what's been done for you. I did it all while I was dying. . ." A reminder we need, because we sometimes say we know it all a work of grace, but we live as though it all depended on our works.

Nice message. I often blame Eve. I joke that I'm going to smack her when I get to heaven. I agree that we have choices too.
