On a ever-so-slightly more serious note, Valentine resented that his name inferred that there was less love on the 364 days of the year other than his birthday. Although he sometimes doubted his father’s love (otherwise, why would his father have given him such a lousy name?), he knew that he has a Father whose love is not limited by either calendars or traditions (and whose sense of justice and humor also abound, as evidenced by the fact that Valentine’s father was born on Memorial Day).
Despite all his unhappiness concerning the name Valentine, no matter how much ridicule he was forced to endure, no matter what people said about his strange family, Valentine was often reminded that regardless of how bad he thought the situation was, it could have been worse: he could have been born on April 1st like his older brother, Fool.
