When Summer is Over, I Go to School!

Mommy took me to school a few days ago and wrote on a bunch of papers so I can go to school. I asked mommy, “Will I go to school tomorrow?” She said, “No you will go in the fall.”

We pick my brother and sister up from school. Sissy always likes to go to school but my brother says it is too hard when you get to higher grades. Sissy is the 1st grade and my brother is in 4th grade. Mommy tells him not to put that thought in our heads. I asked mommy, “Will I go to school next week?” She said, “No, you will go in the fall.”

“Will I go to 1st grade?” I ask mommy. “No honey you will go to Pre-Kindergarten.”
“Will I go to Pre-Kindergarten in two weeks?”
“No, sweetie, you will go in the fall.”

Mommy told my daddy she could not believe my sissy was going to 2nd grade and that my brother was going to 5th grade. She said it seems like not so long ago they were going to school for the first time. Now it is going to be my first time and sooner than we know it I will be going to 2nd grade. She gave me a big hug and kiss and told me I was getting to be such a big girl. I said, “Only big girls go to school, right mommy?” She told me that was right and kept on hugging me!

It was hot outside and I was allowed to wear shorts. I played outside for awhile with mommy and then we walked up to the school to get my brother and sister. Mommy told me that school was almost over for my brother and sister. She also told me they would be home for the summer with me. I was real happy about that! “Mommy, will I go to school when my brother and sister are done school?”
“No, sweetie, you will go in the fall.”

Everyday it has been warm outside and mommy told me today was the last day of school for my brother and sister. She told me they had off school to have some fun in the summer. She said we will go swimming and on picnics. She also said that daddy needs to put in the air conditioners because it was so hot! My brother and sister were happy it was the last day of school. Mommy told me is was because they were ready for some summer fun.
“Mommy, will I go to school when the summer is over?”
My mommy smiles at me and says she should have told me that before.
When summer is over, I will go to school!
“When is summer over mommy?”
“When the hot weather gets cold again and you have to wear pants again.”

Yeah! I will go to school in the fall!

Nice story. It would be good to read to a young child anticipating the start of school. However, I live in Texas and sometimes it's still 100 degrees when we start school! LOL.

I think every preschool has anticipated being able to go to school! This seemed to capture the thoughts of a preschool and the dialog between the child and mother. Our school starts August 6th ... :( your story reminded me. :)
