R-E-S-P-E-C-T

I remember a long time ago a young friend of mine was told to remember, adults are just little people in big bodies. She was being told this because of problems with her mother.
You see, her mom and dad were separated and getting a divorce. This young friend of
mine was a teenager, and had chosen to live with her dad instead of her mom. Her mom
had "issues." My friend Wendy was having a hard time dealing with these issues and a
lady in our church told her the statement to remember. As I have grown older, I have
realized how true that statement really is. At the time this statement was told to Wendy, I
agreed with it and told her that it was true, but now I really know it is. Since I am 50
now, and a grandmother, I can surely relate. Even though my body has changed, who I
am on the inside has not, except, hopefully, to grow.

I wonder if it would help if we can remember that our "parents" are just little people in
big bodies? Maybe then you wouldn't hear the term "dysfunctional families" quite as
often. I realize there are things you can't (and shouldn't) ignore, but many times it's just
unrealistic expectations.

Respect seems to be a forgotten word in our society. You don't see it very often
anymore, but when you do, it is so refreshing and effective.

Bosses are just the "parent" in the workplace. Imagine a world where employees
respected their bosses and vice versa. If we would learn to respect at an early age, it
would follow us throughout our lives, including in the workplace.

Submit is another dirty word in our day and age. However, it still applies, according to
Scripture, and it goes hand in hand with respect.

In our churches, our pastors take on the "parenting" role. We should respect them and
their position. Gee, what a concept! Remember, if they don't deserve it, God will see to
them. He is the most faithful Parent there is. His discipline is sure, and He never misses
the mark.

Bottom line: Kids, respect your parents. Parents, respect your kids (whatever their age).
Then see what happens. Who knows, you might even find out you like one another.

Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if
respect, then respect; if honor, then honor. Romans 13:7
