Topic: Lifeguard (11/09/06)
She looks like an angel as she lies there sleeping. Her breath so soft it is a whisper in my ear. I lie awake thinking of tomorrow. The daycare is taking the children to their first day of swimming lessons. But she’s only three! The daycare says that the teachers are really good there. But she’s still a baby! They say there will be a qualified lifeguard on duty. But she’s my baby!

She’s so excited about her first swimming lesson. Her smile stretches from ear to ear as she puts on her blue Care Bears swimming suit under her clothes. My sweet little baby is going swimming, and I won’t be there to protect her! The daycare assures me once again, there will be a lifeguard on duty.

After work she is bubbling with excitement. So anxious to tell me all the things she learned. “I jumped off the side mommy! I dunked under the water!” My heart just about stops and I have to remind myself that there was a life guard there at all times. I am faint with relief that she survived her first day.

My mother laughs and tells me, “Just wait until her first day of Kindergarten.” My stomach ties itself in knots at the thought. The thought crosses my mind, but there aren’t even lifeguards in Kindergarten!

Alone in my room, I hit my knees. “God, I can’t always be there to hold her hand. The world is so big, with so many dangers. My baby needs someone to keep her safe. God, please be her lifeguard and guard her life when she needs you. Watch her closely and guide her path, until she’s home safe with you again.”

Oh, I liked this. I'd like to hear a bit more about her though. What about some other times she's need a "lifeguard?" To me, this was a bit short to capture such a profound message. I'd like to see this expanded.

This holds a great message however I'm with Allison, this begs to be expanded. May the Lord continue to guide your quill as you write for the glory of HIM!

This caught me with my thoughts of my own children going to their first everythings. A mother wants to protect her offspring, but can't always be there. This is written masterfully. Keep writing.

Aww this is lovely. I looked after a baby in France and I worried then, I'm not even his mother. I do know one thing, God never sleeps, He is always watching. God bless you.
