No matter how you say it… it is peace.
Peace is what people world-wide seek, demonstrate for, crave and try to fake. Wars are even fought in the name of peace.
But real peace is found only in the person of Jesus Christ, He is the Prince of Peace. And peace part of his very nature, one of the fruits of his spirit.
Personal peace is not simply “happiness”, but a deep undergirding of tranquility that comes as we rest in the very presence of God. We can find it even in the midst of the darkest personal storm. It is there when the rest of our world falls apart.
The kind of peace that comes from God is beyond our comprehension. We cannot grasp it, we cannot earn it, we cannot buy it or sell it. This peace comes only from the Lord. Jesus says “My peace I give unto you, not as the world gives.” (John 14:27)
The world offers counterfeit moments of peace in possessions and pleasures. God offers lasting peace.
It is interesting that peace is the opposite of war (conflict). Before we came to Christ, we were enemies of God. (Romans 5:10) I know personally that I was at war with Him, and I was losing! Yet, there is the midst of my disdain, weary and confused from fighting a battle that I could not win, a ray of light shone through. I heard the truth and God redeemed me.
I have tasted forgiveness, and found the true peace that only God can bring. It is available to me at all times, and tastes sweetest when served with a generous portion of obedience, and seasoned with trust.
