Topic: Purposefulness (Purpose in Life) (05/25/06)
There was once a wise man that had set his mind to find the purpose of man. On a certain day his son asked if had found the answer to the purpose of man. He told him that he had found the answer.

‘I have seen men undertake many great tasks, they have built themselves houses and built gardens and parks.’ His son said, ‘They have amassed for themselves great wealth and possessions. They have become great and admired. They have been denied nothing that there eyes desired, surely there is no sweeter purpose in life’

‘A helpless and purposeless task which man has appointed for himself to achieve, for everything they strive after is purposeless and baseless, seeking for purpose in things that have no purpose’ replied his father

‘Then if there is no purpose in such undertakings then surely there is no purpose to life we toil under the sun to no avail, for all that comes is death and therefore life has no purpose but death, am I not right to think that.’ said his son

‘You are wrong to think that because God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living, for he fashioned all things that they may have being.’

‘Then if mans purpose is not in gain or in death. Then what is the true purpose of man?’

‘The purpose of man is to fear God and keep his commandments for what greater purpose has man than this.’

And the wise mans son was satisfied that his father had indeed found the purpose of man.

This is solid writing and clear, philosophical reasoning. I have the feeling there's much more, something yet to be developed. How could this be made into a piece that would draw the reader in, really grab the heart? A dialogue? A story with a plot? A poem? God bless you and keep writing!

I'm ready for more :)

As I read, I was thinking this would turn out to be an account of the writing of the book of Ecclesiastes. It had that feel to it.
