What is fulfillment you ask me with expectation?
Thinking you have me at a loss for words to reply.
You know how I am never satisfied with my work;
That I look on my efforts, shake my head, and sigh.
I could tell you what my dictionary has to say,
That it equates fulfillment with satisfaction.
But I will tell you what it really means to me,
And I will be interested in your reaction.
Fulfillment comes when with a grieving mother
I go to my knees and to our Heavenly Father pray
Her heart is broken, but her love is strong,
For her wayward son who has gone astray.
Fulfillment comes when I lead a soul to Christ,
And see the transformation that takes place,
As I watch the frown from life’s disappointments,
Give way to a wonderful smile on his face.
Fulfillment is mine every time I go to church,
And hear God’s people joyously sing,
The hymns of worship I love so dearly;
And their praises to Christ, the King!
I am fulfilled when I see a dear saint laid to rest,
Who has lived in the shadow of God’s love.
Whose grieving family left behind take comfort,
For they know her home is now in Heaven above.
What is fulfillment, you ask, and I must answer.
It is knowing that when death comes calling me,
It will not be my loss, but rather my gain;
For with Jesus, my Redeemer, is where I’ll be!

A little more work on the meter of this piece will bump its quality up a notch or two. Thanks for writing this thoughtful verse!

Excellently put. The Kingdom needs more people who can articulate who they are and what they are about, in the Lord. Blessings
