It was not the first time Jon got physical with her. She had been dealing with this since their marriage began, almost four years ago. Amy Lynn did not see him as a monster, but his control over her had raged out of control lately. Her mother had always told her you made your bed, now you lay in it, so the thought of divorce would never enter her mind. Realizing his problem, she did the only thing she could think of, pray. Every night alone, at church, the office, it did not matter, she prayed. Hoping God would interject and help Jon to become the man Amy Lynn saw buried deep inside.
Pulling her out of the store Jon turned to Amy Lynn.
“Come on we’re leaving” he spoke with such an angry tone, causing Amy Lynn shuddered a bit.
“But honey, I wasn’t done shopping,” she replied.
“I don’t care, let’s go.”
Now the praying began again. Silently, she spoke with God and he spoke to her.
“Pull in here Jon, I need to get out.”
Confused about his wife’s request, Jon did. It was a small church only minutes from the mall. Neither Jon nor Amy Lynn had ever recalled seeing this church before, but it was there now.
“Come on Jon, walk me in.” Amy Lynn pleaded.
Jon knew his wife was a spiritual woman, but he himself could not remember the last time he set foot in a church. Reluctantly he followed, cursing under his breath. As they entered the building, Amy Lynn made her way towards the altar, and knelt before a giant crucifix. After a few minutes Jon came over and knelt beside her.
“Can we go now, this is…” Jon stopped. Amy Lynn grabbed his hand and began to pray louder. Jon’s cold heart did something it never had in the past, it started to warm. Tears flowed from his eyes, all though he was not sure why. He began to realize the wrongs he had bestowed upon his wife and he turned to apologize to her.
“Shhh,” she said. Pressing her index finger firmly on Jon’s lips.
“Don’t say anything, God’s in control know, so learn to enjoy this moment.”
So he did, and for the first time in his life, Jon felt true love and happiness flow throughout his body.
