Topic: Write a Coming OF AGE short story (11/20/14)
To: My Nine-Year-Old Self,

I wish I could tell you that everything in your life ahead is going to be perfect. I’m sorry. As of now you have a few glorious months left of pure bliss. Life is still roses, and singing princesses. But soon Mom and Dad will brake the news that Hannah is moving 1,000 miles away, and losing her friendship is going to hurt.

That knowledge is crushing to you. It will feel like your heart is being torn out of your chest. As if the One who created us doesn’t care. At times you’ll wander alone in the hallways of school hoping to find a friend. You will sit with the teachers at lunch quietly. Nodding politely to everything that is said. It’s a sad way to live, so you’ll come across a lot of sympathetic people. It's okay though, all of the pain makes me, and I’m pretty happy with who we’ve turned out to be.

Life is going to change rapidly in the next few years. It's going to be hard to cope. That’s why I’m writing this, to let you know I made it out alive. It’s not going to be fun. Living through this loss is going to be hard- impossible, at times. I know you hate it, but when the pain becomes too much, you will cry and you will scream. But, however much you may hurt, remember, pain is temporary. You will rise out of the flames a new and stronger person.

Musical theater, and everything and anything that has to do with words- will be a refuge. Just remember for me, don’t hide your nose in a book all the time, live life, because it’s worth living.
Hannah, as it turns out is not that easy to shake away, and you two remain friends to this day.

Life is hard. There is no other word for it. You are going to lose things and you will gain them. Just remember you can make it- you’ve made it this far.

Really creative and interesting to read. Good job on this one!! Hope you score well. Only one typo I noticed: when her parents broke the news, the word would be spelled, 'break'.
