I rode along in my car, taking a trip through life. As I rode along I realized that I had made many mistakes along life’s highway. I began to search for a way to make up for all the bad things I had done. Not knowing where to turn, I picked up my Bible and began reading. As I read I was confronted by my sinfulness, and was consumed by guilt. I turned a corner in my life and began seeking the Lord Jesus. As I rounded a bend I saw a lone figure, walking along the road. Thinking that he may need a ride I slowed down. As I pulled up next to him and stopped, he turned and looked at me. I will never forget the look in his eyes. It seemed like he could see right into my soul, yet his eyes held such love. He didn’t say a word, but just looked at me. I asked if he’d like a ride and he got into the car. We rode in silence for a while and then I began to ask him a few questions, like who he was and where he came from. He looked at me with those quiet, peaceful eyes and said, “I’m Jesus, who you’ve been looking for.”
I was so excited that I had finally found Jesus that I could hardly drive. I asked Him about Heaven and what I had to do to get there. He told me that He had bought my ticket to Heaven. I could not believe my ears. With a shout that almost landed us in the ditch, I hollered, “Halleluiah!” I asked Jesus how much my ticket had cost Him, thinking I needed to repay Him. He said it had cost Him His life. I grew quiet as I contemplated that He had given His life to buy my ticket to Heaven. How could I ever repay that?
I asked Jesus where my ticket was, anxious to get my hands on it. He said that He was my ticket and would be going with me on my trip, staying for the duration.
As we continued down the road, Jesus offered to drive the car. I told Him I was doing fine. He just looked at me with those knowing eyes and asked if I didn’t trust Him. It wasn’t that I didn’t trust Him, but I figured He didn’t know where I wanted to go.
As we came to a fork in the road, Jesus asked me to turn right, but I needed to turn left for where I was headed. He begged me to turn right, but I held my ground and turned left. He had a sad look on His face, but didn’t say a word. As we rounded a curve, He asked me to slow down. I told Him I knew these roads and asked Him who was driving anyway. At the next crossroad He again asked me to turn right. I told Jesus, “If you want to go right, I’ll just drop you off because I am not turning.”
I stopped and Jesus sadly got out of the car and just stood there looking at me. I took off with more speed, almost relieved that I could make my own decisions now. As I sped along it suddenly dawned on me that I had just dropped off my ticket to Heaven.
I slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. As the car came to a complete stop I realized that I was mere inches from falling off of the bridge, which had been washed out during a storm in the night. There were no road blocks to warn drivers.
As I sat there, heart pounding, someone tapped on my window. I looked up in surprise to find Jesus standing there. I jumped out to give him a hug and tell Him I was sorry. As we got back in the car and I told him that He could drive from now on.
Before we left I asked Him if we could put up some road-blocks for others coming this way. We put up road-blocks as well as warning signs.
Jesus wants to be both Lord and Savior of our life. Acts 2:36 says,
“That God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
So as you go on your trip through this life, “Bon Voyage, and let Jesus drive.
