Topic: The Pen is Mightier than the Sword (04/08/10)
After spending my early life without the blessing of a free flowing gab. I am coming to find I may have the still have a gift with words. Written of cause, but no less sharp in fact I think words could rule the world. In many ways I believe they do.

Think of heads of states they don’t often go to war any more. But they do spend days in negotiations over a vast array of topics and I think that the world is better for it. I image that spend are hours each day emailing each other coming up with agreements on how the world is run. Hence we don’t have militant kings running around fighting one anther instead of ruling their contrary anymore therefore the world is free from the class system that ran Europe for centuries.

Now I know that we don’t have this idea down to the finer point. But I do believe that equal right is a huge step in the write direction. As a South African I see poverty everyday so I am aware that we do have a real problem with it. However the defining moments in my country’s history are centred on a few strokes of the pen.

The question is how are we as Christian writers going to use our God given gift to impact the rest of the world? Are we going to sit on Christian forms comfortably chatting and enjoying each others company? Or are we going to join non-Christian forms and spread the love of God?

At this point I must confuse to have run away from such a site before joining Faithwriters. Please forgive me I have not been showing writing six months yet. I went on to the site for the first time in a while the other day to find a poem cursing Christians. I have left the site to more mature writers for now.

One of the poems (will admit rude word) Christians, felt like a sword being pieced through my hart. After I had posted a number of poems on the Gospel on this particular site I left. I feel that battle is not mine to fight at this point in time. But I have to pick myself up and carry on writing. Trusting that this is the Lord has called me to do. To penetrate the enemy’s held on the world one piece at a time.

But friends have made the comment, “at least the poets are reading my work.” Perhaps the writer of the poem in question must have been moved in some way to write a respond in that way. “And the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God” (Eph 6;17 NKJ)

So the pen will always reign. I think that the question is; whose pen is on top. Unfortunately we are living in a fallen world where Saturn seems to be top dog. But I believe that God will win in end. We just have to use the pen and whatever other gifts God has given us to win over harts for Him.

Your message is heartfelt and I empathize with your burden to share the Gospel with those who don't know our Lord which as you pointed out, can be heavy at times.

FaithWriters is a God inspired site where we can all get refreshment from the hardships of this world, so yes, believe God sent you here, to be lifted up.

For better writing and reading, want to suggest using a grammar checking program such as in Microsoft Office Word which catches all of our misspelled words, that "I" personally am very greatful for. :)

You make some wonderful, valid points.

I'm sure now that this has been posted and you've read it again, you see some editing glitches. These mistakes can be fixed easily enough. If you want to avoid this in the future, have someone read your article to you. If you don't have someone to do that, then leave it overnight, and the next morning read it aloud.

I really liked how you mentioned other sites may not be the right place for you. I think it's great to point out FW is a great place for Christian fellowship and to hone our craft, but we then need to take our work out to the world. That's something hard for me to do, but you've inspired me to go submit some work I've been procrastinating about. Thank you so much for that.
