little shoes never worn,
by a little boy who
was never born.
He was there and then gone.
Somehow I knew
I wouldn’t have him long.
But still I bought the shoes of blue
Blue was the color of the shoes
That belong to the boy that should be mine
The shoes are all I have left,
of my little boy, gone before his time.
I look at them daily and remember
How I felt that cold December
So full of love, ready to burst
Of all my children, he was my first.
Knowing he was there
Always made me smile
It only lasted a little while
Sometimes life seems so unfair.
I know he’s in Heaven
No fear and no pain
Jesus now is holding him
Knowing that keeps me sane
But one day I’ll see that boy again.
I’ll keep the shoes until then
For now I hold him in my heart
Until that day when nothing will keep us apart.

...that belonged to the boy that should have been mine, would fit.
