Jess stood at the edge of the cliff and gazed at the gulls circling noisily overhead. In the distance a hang glider pilot expertly caught a gust of wind and effortlessly rode along with the current. Jess watched him longingly as she prepared to jump. For a long time now she had wanted to try her hand at hang gliding. Jess longed for the sense of freedom she would feel as she came as close to flying as one could get.

She remembered how she had planned on making the leap for her 40th birthday but that had come and gone a long time ago. She had come close a couple of times but had just not been able to work up the courage to go through with it. She had come close once, had even booked a lesson. But at the last minute she had backed out and had not been able to work up the courage to go back.

But today was different. Today was finally the time to make that dream come true. Jess turned to her instructor, took one last look into those deep blue eyes and took a leap of faith as she jumped off the edge of the cliff.
