Color is something we can all identify with. No matter where we live, what nationality we are, what condition we are in, or what age we happen to be. It’s a common thread running through humanity.
What comes to mind when you think of the color “Red”? A beating heart, blood, a beautiful rose, rawness of an open wound, fire, sunburn, a fire truck, bricks, a stop sign or traffic light, love, embarrassment and anger are some of the things that come to my mind. I’m sure you can add more to my list, but lets think about the things mentioned. There are some common factors to each item. Intensity. Merely thinking about each of these things produces an intense feeling within us. Intense beauty, pain, love, sadness, urgency, labor, warning, and emotion.
I find it pretty amazing that the color “Red” encompasses so many areas over a broad spectrum, yet in each area the commonality is fierce intensity. The heart is our center, our core organ needed to survive, blood signifies life as well. A red rose, when looked at, induces a sense of awe, the delicacy and detail are incredible, is it any wonder that when a woman receives red roses that she feels special and honored! An open wound is intensely painful. Fire emits intense heat. Sunburn hurts intensely for a good long time and bears witness to the power of the intense heat of the sun. A fire truck speeding by creates an intense sense of urgency within us, a quickening of heart that it reaches it’s destination in time to save. Bricks are a result of hard labor and they require an intense amount of work to construct with. Stop signs and traffic lights provide and in your face intense warning to STOP. Failing to heed the warning will create intensely horrible consequences. Love, anger and embarrassment are all intense emotions we feel. Each thing mentioned has an identity all it’s own, but each holds the ability to add intense flavor to our lives.
The detail, common thread, defining factor, intensity, feeling, and emotion that color brings to our lives is no mistake. It is an orchestration of God’s artistic handy work. A product of his creativity and just one small piece of evidence of His Sovereignty.
Thank You Father for wrapping Your world with color and sharing it with us. You are truly amazing and incredible in the way you chose to link things together in such perfect harmony. Help us never to take for granted the detail You incorporated into creation. Help us to appreciate this gift of color, and may we use it in such a way that will glorify You. Amen.
