Best friends, play days and bare feet
Playing baseball in the street
The ice cream man brings icy treats.
Firefly's dancing in the night
Fill the air with blinking lights
Catch them before their out of sight
Pop em in the jar and close the lid tight.
Back and forth on the playground swings
The higher they go, the more joy it brings.
One, two, three Jump! Thier pounding heart sings,
As They soar through the air as on eagles wings.
A big oak tree stands in the woods.
At the bottom looking up is where they stood.
As if they were monkeys climbing as high as they could,
Hanging out in the tree limbs felt so good.
Resting a ladder against the tree
They set to work on a house for the three
Wanting a place that no one could see,
Hidden away, a place to just be.
When the seasons change from Summer to Fall
The neighbor kids gather to play football
Play the whole day away till they hear mother's call
Dinner's awaiting, home cooking for all.
Red, yellow, and orange leaves fall to the ground,
With out even making as much as a sound.
Rakes in hand, to the backyard they pound,
Working laboriously, raking leaves in a mound.
One after the other they take turns jumping in.
After each jump they fluff it again.
These adventurous children ages 6,8, and 10,
Cover up in the leaf pile so it will hide them.
September means off to school they go.
Book bags and pencils and new shoes to show.
Excited, up early, get back in the flow.
Praying there'll be someone in the class that they'll know.
Home after school, Mom greets with a snack.
They devour it as if animals on attack.
Change into their play clothes and head out back
To wait for their friends in the secret shack.
The first snowfall of winter is here at last
Igloos and sledding, and snowmen amassed
The fight is on! Snowballs go flying past.
Mom makes hot chocolate to warm them up fast.
Grateful for so many memories to share.
As a mother I cherish those moments with care.
And now as we gather, it matter not where.
Those memories are treated as a treasure so rare.
