Topic: Birth (infancy) (08/20/09)
Waiting for my husband to finish eating bowl number three of his Captain Crunch cereal, I pondered what this day would bring. We were both heading for uncharted territory. Things were about to change, ready or not. In four months time our lives had hit a warp speed metamorphosis. Maybe I should back up a bit.

The month was June, exactly one year after high school graduation. I walked down the aisle of St John’s church, right into the position of wife to my high school sweetheart. This wasn’t exactly how we planned our lives. We anticipated finishing college, getting stellar jobs, and then marrying and having children. Needless to say, things got a little mixed up, and so there we were, living with his parents , in labor with our first child, and my husband utters those revelatory words to me, “just let me finish my cereal then we’ll go.”

Birth, this word encompasses a whole myriad of newness and change. Fear sets in. My husband did finish his seemingly endless bowl of cereal and raced me to the hospital in plenty of time. We spent the next four hours together, readying for the birth of our baby. Looking back, this was not only the birthday of our first child, but the birth of so much more: our lives together, our independence, our trust’s foundation, our family, our parenthood, and our unconditional love.

This sweet memory brings me to my point, birth brings about change, it waits for no man, we can’t put it off or hold it back. Birth leads to change, change leads to birth. Like a row of dominoes sets off a chain reaction, the birth of one thing leads to the birth of another. Considering the creator of this whole world , is it any wonder that God figured it this way? When we come to know Christ we are born again, birthed of spirit, and through birth we are commissioned in the Spirit to go out and share our testimonies. We can eat a million bowls of cereal, but birth happens regardless so don’t weigh yourself down with all that cereal. Go to God with you fears and let him use you to start His the chain reaction!.

I would have grabbed that spoon out of his hand and hit him over the head with it! LOL

Great telling of your story - I love the way you wove the spiritual lesson into the end.
