She hung up the phone and fell to the floor weeping. She had just received a call from her doctor with the results of her test. Not pregnant, again. Annabelle and Hunter had been trying to conceive for three years but had been unsuccessful. All of their friends had children. They wanted a child more than anything. It just didn’t seem fair to Annabelle that she and her husband couldn’t conceive when there were women all over the world having children and aborting children they didn’t want. She didn’t understand how God could allow that. She had been saved at a young age and was looked upon by others as a woman of great faith. However, her faith seemed to be fading little by little every time she received a negative pregnancy test.
“Honey, I’m home,” Hunter said as he walked through the door with his briefcase in hand.
“Annabelle, are you home?” He called again unable to find his wife. He walked through the house and into the bedroom. There she was on the floor silently starring at the wall.
“Annabelle, what’s wrong?” Hunter ran to her in a panic.
Annabelle looked into her husband’s eyes and in a soft whisper-like voice said, “Negative.”
Hunter’s heart sank. She didn’t have to say anything more. He had come to know what that one word meant. He sat down beside her and wrapped his arms around her as she began to weep again. Hunter didn’t understand either. They had seen several doctors and none of them could find anything wrong with either of them. He hated to see his wife in such pain. They prayed all the time about having a child and waited and hoped that the Lord would say yes. They did not understand why the Lord kept saying no.
“I’m done Hunter. I can’t keep doing this. I’m done trying,” Annabelle said hopelessly.
“No, don’t give up! Don’t lose faith. We’ll keep praying and trying,” Hunter begged.
“NO! Hunter, I can’ do this anymore,” Annabelle yelled back.
“Okay. We can talk about this later,” Hunter said. “We need to pray though.” They bowed their heads and Hunter began to pray for a miracle.
*** 2 Days Later ***
“You are absolutely sure about this? Praise the Lord!” Annabelle hung up the phone with an excitement that she hadn’t felt in a while. She couldn’t wait until Hunter came home from work.
“Hey Annabelle, how was your day,” Hunter asked as he walked through the door?
“Great! I have a surprise for you. It’s kind-of a game. Start with this and follow the directions.” Annabelle said as she handed him a piece of paper. The paper led him to another part of the house where he found another note and so on. The last note led him into the guest bedroom. As he opened the door, he eyes settled on a piece of furniture that he never thought he would see. He turned to Annabelle who had a huge smile on her face.
“Does that crib mean what I think it does?” Hunter asked. Annabelle shook her head in agreement. “I don’t understand. I thought you said the results were negative.”
“So did I. The doctor called back today and said they had made a mistake in the results. The nurse read the wrong file. We’re pregnant!” She exclaimed with excitement.
*** 8 Months Later ***
“Congratulations, it’s a boy!” The doctor exclaimed to Hunter and Annabelle. He handed the baby to Annabelle and she held him in her arms for the first time. The baby boy she and Hunter had prayed so hard about was here. His long awaited arrival had finally come. It reminded her of her Savior’s birth. How the saints long ago prayed for Him to come. Then when His long awaited arrival came in the fullness of time, the angels worshiped in song, shepherd came to see Him and Wise men traveled with gifts to celebrate His arrival. She wondered if the way she was feeling was how Mary must have felt holding Jesus for the first time.
“See, the Lord didn’t forget us Annabelle. Now our little miracle has arrived!” Hunter exclaimed.
“Yes, God is so good to us Hunter. Thank you Lord for our little man,” Annabelle replied as she kissed the top of the head of their miracle.
