Like all young girls of her age she had problems with friends, hormones and other things teenage girls have to deal with. Her friends did not always appreciate her good nature or the fact that she never took part in their group experiments. This made her an outcast, and before long she had no friends.
One day she was walking from school to her house, when her bad luck struck again. She walked in behind a truck that was backing up, being so depressed and down she did not notice the truck till it was to late. Another young girl who was sitting nearby reading a book rushed to her aid.
For this first time in Mary’s life she was lucky, as they pulled her from under the truck she only had a few scratches and was in shock. The young girl that rushed to her aid introduced herself as Lindy Hakward, and walked Mary home.
Form that moment on Mary and Lindy was friends. They found a companionship and deep friendship. Mary told Lindy how unlucky she was and how bad her other friends treated her because she would not drink, smoke and do other things that is only meant for marriage.
Lindy asked Mary if she were a Christian. Mary was shocked at this straight question for her parents were in a Christian church but never went or spoke about it in there home. So Mary was confused and did not know how to answer this question.
Lindy saw this confusion and took Mary’s hand into hers.
‘Come to church with me tonight, we have a youth gathering and I think you would like it.’
Mary smiled and accepted the invitation. Knowing that it is Friday and her parents would be going to there bridge club.
That evening Mary and Lindy sat side by side in the small church listing to the youth pastor as he talked to them about the love of God and His son Jesus. Mary was so captivated about all of it. She did not know any of the things the young pastor was talking about, but she did know it made her feel all warm and loved inside.
At the end of a prayer the young pastor asked if anyone would like to step forward to accept Jesus as there personal savior and Lord. Mary always being on the shy side stood up and walked to the front of the church, for the first time in her live not caring who saw her.
The young pastor smiled as he walked over to her and placed his hands on her shoulders he whispered softly to her.
“God have been waiting for you, He loves you and want to be part of your life. With him there is no down only up.”
Mary’s jaw dropped in amazement at his words; he only smiled and started to pray for her. As his words filled the church Mary could feel how her heart became warm, and tears started to roll down her cheeks. The young pastor placed his arms around her and hugged her wile he kept on praying.
After the service Mary spoke to Lindy and the young pastor.
“ I have always had bad luck, where I went I was always smack in the middle of it, but now I feel lucky.”
The young pastor laughed and shook his head.
“We as people define good things that happen to us as luck and bad things as bad luck. But it has nothing to do with luck. As people we are all open targets for the darkness and bad things in live, they will always try to pull us down but with God on your side you have the power and the weapons to fight them. Yes you will be tempted and tested but always turn to your shield (word of God) and your sword (the truth and love of God) they will always protect you and bring you back up when you mite go down.”
Mary smiled at the pastor, as she still had to learn much she now had the tools and friends to learn the write things.
