Very well written - I followed your story easily. Made the Old woman a very strong character. Good luck.

You create vivid word pictures. I could almost taste the dust!
Do watch your tenses. You tended to switch between present and past tense.
I like the way you brought out the tension between the generations. Nicely done!

Neat story.

It seems as though about half way through some tense shifts began taking place. COuld just be me though.
Your story invokes very strong feelings. Wonderful descriptions, too! You make me want to know more about this woman and her life. You tend to switch tenses, be careful with that, but a very good entry.
I really liked this. At a creative writing class a lady from the Transkei shared with us, how in each village there was an elderly woman who was selected to be the story teller. She would sit in front of her little hut all day and tell stories. the villagers would listen and move on, but she never stopped.
I loved the way you put that idea across.
