I never thought that life would bring us so close. Alice finished her college and was supposed to go back to her hometown. But she didn’t. She wanted to join a group of evangelists to do full-time ministry. Yet she was not sure. She was still thinking over it; that was when the problems started.
Alice’s parents were not saved and they didn’t agree with their daughter’s decision to enter full- time youth ministry. They wanted her back home. Alice fell in a dilemma. The evangelists and Alice’s pastor advised her to go back home, take time to decide and grow in the Lord. They said at the right time God would lead her to do a full-time work for Him. Alice knew that they were right but she was not ready to take their advice. She was scared that if she went back home, she would not be allowed to follow the Lord. She would lose on fellowship, church and Bible studies.
It was during this time that Alice turned to me for help. My parents opened our home to her and she stayed with us. As days went by we got to know each other well and found that we had the same vision: to work among the youth, with God given talents.
Alice wanted to be a writer and myself a counselor. Both of us worked on a vision strategy called “Cross Roads” and we were very happy about it. We prayed a lot about it.
During this time Alice joined a computer course in her college and her parents agreed to it. She moved to a hostel near her college and we could meet only on weekends. We were able to work on Cross Roads in our house only during that time. Alice often said, ‘The office is in our minds, though we work on weekends, we work on it in our minds throughout the week.
I liked her attitude and vigor to serve the Lord. But everything came to an end when Alice’s parents came down to our city and took her back forcefully. They disagreed with the Bible studies and the church she attended. It was against their Catholic faith. Alice went back home heartbroken. She was unable to leave any contact numbers or place of her home with me.
Life would have been different for her and me if she had been here. I don’t know how or where she is or what she is doing. Years have passed by and in this game of life, she is one friend who I love and would remember forever.
