On the panhandle high plains
Stands a cross larger than life.
Many a traveler it detains,
Showing them our Saviors strife.
For miles it can be seen
As travelers hurry to and fro.
The stations around create the scene
That happened so long ago.
From the East, from the West
We keep the cross in sight.
In the rear view, we see it too.
Standing tall, like the One of might.
For many, it is the only thought
Of the One who died for us.
For others, it is actively sought.
The bridge of life we often discuss.
Towering over everything in view,
The impact on us is immense.
Our cares and woes start to subdue
As we come under the influence.
To the ones that believe in Him
The real cross is just as large.
Life’s end is no longer grim.
Sin’s payment He did discharge.
An outline against the sky
We remember the thought
Why He is always so nigh,
Our lives and souls he bought.
The little girl said it so well,
I know He came down.
This is the reason His story we tell.
One day we shall share His Crown.
To all who see the cross by the road
May the sight give you peace.
He can lighten your load
And cause your joy to increase.
